Phil Lagen Sculpture Artist - Southend-on-Sea

About The Artist

Throughout my life, I have always enjoyed making things using my hands. In recent years I’ve tried to focus my passion for ‘being creative’ by becoming involved with my local art community. I’ve never received any form of professional training and like many of my fellow artists I’m self-taught. I’m just someone who had a keen interest in the subject of ‘Art’ at school. Therefore it will come as no surprise to learn that I tend to think of myself as a bit of an imposter when it comes to art in general – but especially when it comes to being considered as a ‘sculptor’.

I take inspiration from observing the people and objects around us in our every day-to-day life. It could be one of the reasons why many of my sculptures often give reference to the human form or have some kind of anatomical theme. But first and foremost I try to begin by making something that I would personally like to own, something that I would be proud to display in or around the home. Usually only when I am completely satisfied with the end result do I consider making it available to the public. But an investment in one of ‘My Sculptures’ means that you will be buying into a piece of artwork that I have lovingly created with my own fair hands. People should always expect to pay just a little bit more for something that has been handmade rather than machine-produced.
